Arlington Hall
Thetford, Suffolk
From £12000 per night
Arlington Hall is set within a historic estate, with grounds shaped by some of England’s most famous landscape designers. Today, this majestic home is ideal for memorable and multi-generational family holidays.
With a legacy stretching back to the 1400s, Arlington Hall is a magnificent manor house, set in the Suffolk countryside. Through history, its grounds have been designed and landscaped by John Evelyn, William Kent, and Lancelot “Capability” Brown. In the mid-1600s, the existing hall was reimagined to become an impressive and fashionable residence; channelling an elegantly French architectural style.
The hall offers all the finery you’d expect of a house of this stature. But complementing this is a deep commitment to comfort – above all, this is a warm and welcoming family home. Alongside antiques and artwork by Stubbs, van Dyck, and Reynolds, you’ll find feet-up seating, Sonos surround sound, and superfast broadband.
Sleeping 21, the hall itself has 10 bedrooms; each with distinctive character. Spaces include a triple-aspect room, with extensive views overlooking the grounds, a room which traditionally hosted visiting royal family members; and another, which offers bird’s-eye views over the estate.
The estate can offer further accommodation if you’d like to stay as a larger group, with additional properties including an 18th-century Palladian folly originally constructed for banqueting, with an adjoining cabin. Together, these quirky spaces provide sleeping accommodation for an extra 22 guests making 43 in total.
Here, the backdrop is perfect for group gatherings or celebrations. In a property made for entertaining, there’s ample room for everyone to come together or break away for time alone. Host dinner in the grand dining room, unwind with a cocktail in the billiard room, or curl up with a classic in the library.
Outside, you can stretch your legs in 10,500 acres of wildlife-rich gardens, woodland, and parkland. Play tennis or badminton on your private court, or challenge the children to a croquet match. Take a stroll in the Pleasure Grounds, where natural beauty meets landscaped artistry, or take kayaks or paddle boards out onto the waterways.
If you’re looking forward to family adventures, Arlington Hall is a natural choice. With so much to do on the estate itself, you can easily occupy yourselves without leaving – but if you’d like to go further, both Cambridge and Norwich are within an hour’s drive, and the coast is just 45 minutes by car.
A note from us: this special property is only available during July, Thanksgiving, and from the Christmas period to the New Year. If you’re hoping for a country house stay outside these times, we have several impressive manor houses and estates within our collection.
