Your Guide to: The Cabin and Foxlink

Set in acres of private woodland on the edge of Billingshurst, both The Cabin and Foxlink lead out to rolling hillsides, South Downs countryside, and picturesque Sussex villages. While you’re here, balance rewarding days out with restful times back at base.

A world apart

This corner of West Sussex is characterised by ancient treescapes and natural beauty. Our collection features two unique properties, linked by the care of one owner. The Cabin, a one-bedroom retreat, is popular with couples and solo travellers seeking a total escape. And Foxlink, sleeping seven, offers the same peace and seclusion, with extra space for families.

The properties are close enough to make staying nearby easy, while remaining completely separate, giving larger groups the best of both worlds: time together when they want it, and their own space when they don't.

Guests love these properties, and we’re often asked for our go-to recommendations for things to do during a stay. If you’re seeking similar inspiration, we’ve compiled a guide that ticks many boxes; whether you’re embarking on a weekend away or a week’s holiday.

An easy weekend

A short stay is best kept simple: one good walk, one good meal out, and plenty of time to do very little at all. With The Cabin and Foxlink both tucked away in private woodland, switching off begins before you’ve gone anywhere.

With an easy weekend ahead…

  • Lace up your boots and wander the footpaths and bridleways that lead out from your woodland doorstep: there’s no need to go far to feel miles from anywhere.
  • Book a table at The Chequers Inn in Rowhook, just ten minutes away. With an outstanding reputation for fine food, good wine, and handpicked ales, it’s an easy, unfussy spot in which to spend an evening.
  • Save plenty of time for the properties themselves, whether that’s the jacuzzi and fire pit at The Cabin, or the plunge pool and rose garden at Foxlink.
  • And, if you’re ready for a change of scene, Petworth and Arundel are both within easy reach, when the mood takes you.

A midweek break

Midweek days bring a different rhythm, with enough time to really explore, without needing to rush. This is your chance to go a little further afield, while still leaving room for slow mornings and lazy afternoons.

On a midweek break…

  • Head out along the Downs Link, the old railway path that runs close by. It’s a lovely, easy-going route for walkers, and a good chance to explore nature while you’re getting away from it all.
  • For something more immersive, contact Clive Cobie, who lives in the woods surrounding The Cabin. He offers foraging, charcoal-making, bushcraft sessions, and wildlife tours; a memorable way for adults and children to reconnect.
  • Drive 15 minutes to Kinsbrook Vineyard, where you could stop for lunch at the restaurant, or pick up something delicious from the café and deli to bring home.
  • If golf is more your pace, Slinfold Golf Club is close by and easy to fit around the rest of your stay.

A week to yourselves

With a full week ahead, you’ll find the whole of West Sussex on your horizon; including coastline, countryside, and everything in between. There’s time here to go further and do more, while still returning to total peace and quiet.

With a week to spare…

  • Spend a morning wandering Leonardslee Lakes & Gardens, a Grade I-listed garden that's wonderful for families, before settling down to lunch at the Michelin-starred Restaurant Interlude on site.
  • On another day, take a 35-minute drive to the gardens at Borde Hill: well worth the extra distance for an afternoon among the borders and woodland walks.
  • Go for dinner at Chalk Restaurant at the Wiston Estate, around 25 minutes away (and if you want to shop for wine, our guests can claim 10% off purchases of six bottles or more).
  • Book ahead for The Spa at South Lodge, making the most of its wild swimming pool and luxury treatments. Or, treat yourselves to the Mediterranean-inspired menu at Botanica.
  • And, of course, save some days for simply being at The Cabin or Foxlink: reading on the mezzanine, cooking together in the kitchen, or letting the children loose in Foxlink’s garden while you all lose track of time.
