With the natural grace of its time, Gilbert House is an impressive Georgian townhouse at the very heart of Chichester’s city centre. Sleeping six in three bedrooms, it’s a light and bright space imbued with effortless style.

Nestled in the Pallants (just along from the well-respected Pallant House Gallery), the house forms an elegant base for a city break. From here, you’re within easy reach of all that Chichester has to offer, while still enjoying the sense of peace and escape that you’d hope for from a more secluded property.

The house’s three bedrooms (a super-king, and two king-sized,) are tranquil, airy, and filled with character – ideally suited to a good night’s rest. Period features such as exposed beams, original fireplaces and sloping ceilings pair comfortably with modern-day luxuries and tasteful flashes of colour. This creative thread runs throughout the house, with hand-selected artworks, as well as a gallery wall of quirky historic menus in the kitchen.

And, if cooking is your form of relaxation, you’ll feel right at home. The kitchen boasts an Aga, wine cooler, Nespresso machine, American-style fridge-freezer, and a large walk-in pantry with sink. With window seating and a generous dining table, this is a room fit for good company and conversation.

When it comes to quiet days and restful evenings, you’ll find two spaces in which to unwind. The formal reception room features comfy sofas and well-stocked bookshelves, while the snug is a warm and cosy nook with a television, piano, desk, and wood burner (for winter lettings).

As you wander throughout the house, you’ll find thoughtful touches to make your stay run smoothly. The three bathrooms (which feature walk-in showers, and a freestanding bath in the master en-suite) have under-floor heating, while the ground floor, master bedroom and garden are equipped with a Lutron lighting system.

Stepping outside, you’ll find an enclosed courtyard garden with a lawn area and well-stocked borders. As day winds down to night, spend time around the fire pit or head up to the raised dining area for early evening drinks. Individual, inspiring, and beautifully situated, this truly is your haven in the centre of the city.
