Hundon, Suffolk
£1097 - £2194 per night
Reached by a long private drive, this beautiful home is also a hideaway. Tucked among meadows and gardens, it’s a contemporary bolthole for family holidays and groups of friends.
From the moment you arrive, you’ll feel the easy charm of Longhorn Lodge. Sleeping nine adults and one baby or toddler, this luxurious Suffolk holiday cottage has home comforts in abundance.
Outside, immaculate lawns and sensory flower beds set the tone, while paths edged with lavender, hyssop and verbena lead to an elegant sun terrace. Inside, the mood is calm and considered. Framed artworks hang above plush sofas, and soft, neutral colours preserve a gentle harmony.
The lodge’s five bedrooms are dressed in fine cottons and cushions, each one made for sinking into. Four are set on the first floor, spanning a versatile combination of super-king (with an en-suite), king, and double or twin beds. One makes an ideal children’s room, fitted with a single bed and cot or toddler bed. On the ground floor, you’ll find a fifth bedroom, with a king-size bed and wheelchair access, alongside an accessible shower room.
Here, the little details make a big difference. Thoughtful luxuries are everywhere you turn: a well-stocked drinks trolley, armchairs placed for stepping away with a coffee, a boot room for muddy countryside days, and a kitchen with everything a group could need.
From the living room, French doors lead out to the lodge’s rose-edged terrace, where loungers await sunny days and breakfast is best taken al fresco. In the meadow beyond, a summer house contains a long table seating 12, perfect for suppers or barbecues in atmospheric natural surroundings. Come dusk, light the fire pits for stargazing and stories, while a trampoline and table tennis keep younger guests happy.
And when you're ready to venture out, Suffolk's market towns, castles, and stately homes are close by. But whether you wander out or stay put, this base is always ready with a warm welcome, a cosy throw, and the Suffolk sky overhead.

The pretty village of Hundon sits at the heart of southwest Suffolk. Two miles away, you’ll find the market town of Clare, while Newmarket and Bury St Edmunds are just 25 minutes by car. And, if you’re keen for some time in the city, Cambridge is only a 45-minute drive, making it an easy day-trip option.
Not far away, Bury St Edmunds has a range of award-winning food and drink options. For something special, Maison Bleue and Pea Porridge both offer intimate fine dining. Near Cavenham, Porters Lodge Garden is a lovely spot for a stroll, followed by a cream tea. Or you could visit Bury St Edmunds on a Wednesday or Saturday, to shop for ingredients at the town’s markets.
Southwest Suffolk is known for its spectacular skies and natural landscape, which once inspired painters such as Gainsborough and Constable. Near Hundon, the former cloth town of Clare is worth a day’s pottering, with a medieval castle and priory, and a selection of independent shops. The wider area is peppered with historic sites and stately homes, including Ickworth House, Melford Hall, and the Norman-era Hedingham Castle.
