Some owners provide an initial supply of logs or kindling as part of your welcome, while others may ask that you source your own locally. We’d always recommend checking the individual listing or guest information before you arrive so you know exactly what to expect – and can stock up on the way if needed.

The most important thing to come equipped with is an appetite for doing very little (in the best possible way). Alongside that, we recommend some delicious food picks, a good book or two, and anything else that makes a long, unhurried evening feel like a treat. If you’re planning to explore the surrounding countryside or coast, sturdy walking boots or wellies are a must – and a decent waterproof rarely goes amiss on a British winter break.
